More good news, and gratitude to EIA (Environmental Investigation Agency) and HSI (Humane Society International) for this campaign:

"Rakuten bans sales of whale and dolphin meat; notifies all sellers"

MSN Sankei News, April 2nd, 2014

A Rakuten representative announced that the online marketplace has banned the sale of all whale and dolphin meat products on their site, and notified all sellers of the new policy. Rakuten’s “decision is based on the ICJ ruling” ordering that Japan’s scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean is not permitted under international law.

According to Rakuten, the ban includes all whale and dolphin products including meat, skin, blubber, bone and any other product derived from whales or dolphins. An email went out on the 1st notifying all sellers of the updated “prohibited products” guidelines, and ordered all sellers to remove all such products from their seller pages by the 30th of April.
